The University of Houstons 2019 Graphic Design program was lucky enough to collaborate to revamp the Cullen underpass with TxDOT. We Are Here aims to represent these Houston neighborhoods as a collective entity that embodies decades of resilience and determination to grow further while maintaining the ultimate goal of cultural and economic preservation. Maps define a landscape that convey a narrative of the formative and personal experiences of its residents. Each neighborhood builds landmarks, homes, roads, schools, etc. and with it, establishes a cultural language that communicates a transcendental awareness of its own importance. The forms that create a landscape are dictated by the imaginations of the locals.
